HAIR MYTHS

Washing hair too much will make it fall out - the hair and scalp benefit from the removal of dirt, oils and dead skin cells. Only the ones that are ready to fall out will, and not washing your hair won't prevent this.

Pulling out one grey hair will make two grow back in its place - if a hair is white and you pull one out, it is likely that neighbouring hairs are also about to start growing, therefore two hairs near to each other may appear at the same time.

Brushing your hair 100 times a night is good for it - as hair grows longer it becomes drier and more fragile so over-brushing causes it to split and break.

Cutting hair will make it grow stronger - hair is affected at the root at the base of the follicle, so once it is visible on the surface of the scalp, all you can influence is its colour and appearance, not its strength.

Bald men are more virile - testosterone causes male pattern hair loss, therefore it was assumed that balding men must have higher levels of it. However, it's not so much the level of hormone which causes hair loss but how the hair cells respond, and that is genetically determined!
